Arsenal striker Fabio Vieira is set to return to his former club Porto on loan, sources have told ESPN's James Olley.
Negotiations are at an advanced stage between both clubs over a direct loan agreement that does not include any option or obligation to buy.
The 24-year-old moved to the Emirates Stadium from Porto for €40 million ($44.7 million) in 2022 but has struggled to find regular playing time. He has made 49 appearances in his two seasons at the club, scoring three goals and registering nine assists.
Competition for midfield places is expected to increase following the imminent arrival of Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad, with sources telling ESPN that Arsenal have agreed an initial fee of £28 million (US$36.6 million) for the Spain international.
Vieira will be Arsenal's latest departure this summer, following the departures of Emile Smith Rowe, Cédric, Mohamed Elneny, Nuno Tavares and Albert Lokonga.
Meanwhile, sources have told ESPN that striker Eddie Nketiah is edging closer to a move to Nottingham Forest.
