American defender Mark McKenzie is close to joining Ligue 1 club Toulouse from Genk, a source confirmed to ESPN.
McKenzie, 25, was on the radar of several Bundesliga clubs and others in Belgium but opted to join Toulouse on a deal worth 3 million euros ($3.2 million) and with a contract until 2027.
McKenzie has 13 caps for the United States and was part of their squad for the Copa America this summer. His contract with Genk was due to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season, but the centre-back will travel to France and the signing is expected to be confirmed on Friday.
He made his MLS debut with the Philadelphia Union before joining Belgian club Genk in January 2021 for €5 million ($5.4 million). He made 128 appearances for Genk and appeared with the club in both the Europa League and UEFA Conference League.
