When a Fox News presenter suggests killing the homeless, where is empathy?

To the editor: As a country, at what level have we sunk when the host of a news program in an important national network does not think twice before suggesting the forced execution of US citizens whose only crimes are essentially mental health problems and homeless people (“Fox News presenter apologizes for comments on killing homeless people with mental illnesses.” September 14)? I did not listen to an outraged pio in the transmission where the comments were made.

When will we call that abhorrent behavior? After it is too late? The 21st century policy echoes the worst of violence and the excesses of the twentieth century and has desensitized populations around the world to the dangers inherent in the loss of empathy and compassion that we are witnessing daily. I guess we will end not with the world we want, but with which we deserve.
