Top 5 smartphone deals for June 2024

From the workhorse you use for calls from the office and in the field to retro flip phones for starting a casual conversation with a client, cell phones are arguably an essential device for most people today. If you're in the market for a new smartphone, look no further than these special offers happening this month.

Buying a phone can be more complicated than buying other hardware due to carrier plans. A carrier may have low-cost upgrades or unlimited business plans, while an unlocked or prepaid phone works independently of any carrier. For business, you'll likely have one carrier and perhaps an unlimited plan, so we've leaned slightly toward carrier offers, but you'll need to check to see if they apply to your plan. If they do, you can often get a new phone as part of a free upgrade or join a payment plan that combines the cost of the phone with the cost of data for a couple of years.

When evaluating the offers to determine the top five, we consider the depth of the discount, the quality of the product, and its potential applications for businesses, from corporate to independent. We've tried to offer a variety of brands, since you probably already have a preference between Apple, Android, Google, or something else.

Best smartphone deals for June 2024: comparison table

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra at AT&T: Best Samsung Galaxy deal

Image: AT&T

Price: $299.99 with trade-in and unlimited plan.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra can run Google's generative AI, like the Image 2 image creator, and our reviewer called this model “amazing” earlier this year. For existing AT&T customers, you can trade in your current phone and upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra with an eligible unlimited plan to get up to $1,000 off the retail price of $1,299.99. This type of benefit isn't unusual among carriers, but the magnitude of this discount brings it to a very reasonable $8.34 per month if you pay for this phone on the payment plan. If you know you like the Galaxy and want to upgrade to the newer, premium version, this is a great deal that could save you a lot of money.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 at Samsung: the best foldable phone deal

Price: $499.99 with maximum redemption.

This offer is for an unlocked phone, so you can pair it with any carrier. Samsung is offering $500 off the trendy foldable phone if you trade in your older smartphone. Well, it's $500 if you specifically trade in a relatively new Galaxy S23 Ultra 5G, and older devices or devices from other brands reduce the discount from there. That's the nature of smartphone deals: They often come with very specific fine print. But if you have the perfect setup for this deal, you'll get a lovely, high-performance phone in return.

The Galaxy Z Flip5 runs Android 13, including AI features, and its small size is good for business trips or back-to-back meetings. Just keep in mind that the hinge is the part that will most likely wear out first.

You can sometimes find other Flip5 deals on Amazon or deeper discounts from carriers, although some of them require setting up a new line, which isn't convenient.

Google Pixel 8 Pro at Best Buy: Best unlocked smartphone deal

Price: $649 with carrier configuration.

If you want to set up a phone with the carrier of your choice, this deal gets you $250 off a Google Pixel 6 Pro if you set up the phone with a carrier through Best Buy. The Google Pixel 8 Pro stands out for its camera. Every time I've come across one, I've been impressed by the 50-megapixel images, and for the Android software it runs, it's the best. You can connect this phone to an AT&T, Verizon, or Google Fi plan.

Google Pixel 8 Pro at Mint Mobile: Best prepaid smartphone deal

Verizon is offering $829.99 off the current-gen iPhone 15, meaning the phone is free compared to the $799 retail price. You'll pay for Verizon's Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Ultimate plan, and the savings are distributed as a monthly credit over 36 months. The iPhone 15 has good photo editing features, such as editing backgrounds, that can be used for work. Plus, it will be compatible with iOS 18 when the new operating system comes out this fall. However, the iPhone 15 will not be able to use Apple Intelligence.
