The military force will do nothing to solve the drug problems of us

To the editor: Sorry, but are we ignoring the elephant in the room? This opinion article (“No military strategy can stop the posters of Mexico” August 26) never mentions that the United States is The world number 1 consumer of illicit drugs. The use of military force to combat drug cartels is a fairly desperate task that will do little to treat the fundamental causes of drug problem in the United States: stress, economic insecurity, poverty and mental health problems. And with our current state of uncertainty, the problem will probably worsen. We need to create stronger preventive measures to really reduce our dependence on the epidemic. The old saying says: “As long as there is a lawsuit, there will always be an offer.” We are going to get rid of the demand.
