State schools face an 'urgent budgetary crisis' about retention of funds

To the editor: The Trump administration statement that is Simply checking The fiscal year 2025 funds is deeply misleading (“California, other states demand Trump for retaining $ 6.8 billion in critical education funds.” July 14). Actually, the Administration is holding $ 6.8 billion in vital education funds already assigned by Congress and previously scheduled for its launch on July 1, 2025.

This delay is causing an urgent budgetary crisis. The school districts throughout the country, even in Los Angeles, depend on these funds for summer programs and preparations for autumn. On the other hand, we are witnesses of programs, dismissals and families fighting for safe and enriching spaces for their children.

As Expondla Executive Director, which leads a coalition of more than 500 young people service organizations throughout the Los Angeles County, I see the devastating impact firsthand. Parents face impossible options between work and child care, causing effects of economic domain devastating local companies and communities.

The administration must immediately release these funds. The futures of our children are at stake.
