To the editor: If President Trump feels comfortable by extracting 15% of NVIDIA's income in exchange for allowing his chips to be sold to China, why not expand that concept to other areas (“the United States will obtain a cut of 15% of the sales of Chips Nvidia and AMD to China under an unusual agreement”, August 11)? For example, why not take 10% of the income of any business that receives a federal government subsidy or share patent rights with any university that accepts federal subsidies for research projects?
Income could be used to create a sovereign wealth fund. In addition to reducing taxes, we need to find additional sources of income to respond to a changing global economy.
