LACMA should highlight local artists and art that represents us

To the editor: It is exciting to see that the new Latamma takes shape, but what happens with surrounding public art (“It's a horse, it's a dinosaur: an exclusive look at Jeff Koons' monumental sculpture in Lacma,” September 24)?

Jeff Koons is the modern Thomas Kinkade, and “Split-Rocker” is just a new edition of an old series, the first of which is permanently exhibited at the Glenstone Museum in Maryland. Why could we have found a Los Angeles artist, or at least a more representative original piece of Los Angeles?

At least the “smoke” of Tony Smith has a substance, and the “urban light” of Chris Burden actually reflects the city.

“Divided Rocker” could have improved better using native plants. The three flowers listed in the article are not native; Some species of Gazanias are even considered A highly invasive herb in California.
