To the editor: For a long time I have thought that, although initially a visionary and exciting idea, Los Angeles is no longer, and it cannot be ready and capable of organizing the 2028 Olympic Games (“He never needed the Olympic Games. With Trump wanting to enter, it's time to retire.” August 7). There are too many obstacles to being navigated and they are given the enormous challenges of this great city, mainly financial and those related to transport and our discouraged neighbors, it is time to retire and focus on the necessary problems for stability, sustainability and growth.
I was almost ready to silence my pessimism, and then President Trump created the task force of the White House for the 2028 Olympic Games. With this action, which clearly reflects the hate of Trump of Los Angeles and the opportunity he sees to end up mercilessly, the only response of the president of the 28 Casey Wasserman and his team should be a resounding and retired. They can be temporarily ashamed and criticized, but taking that step would demonstrate strength and purpose, and emerge as a powerful leader. Doing anything else will be cowardly.

To the editor: I agree with columnist Gustavo Arellano who should retire from the 2028 Olympic Games. He made excellent points, but left out another important argument: the current administration has made international travelers feel inopportune and insecure visiting the United States. International Tourism is already falling significantly. How much worse will be in three years? If the rest of the world stays at home and observes the Olympic Games on television or online, there will be no benefit for angels, only great costs.

To the editor: I find the call to get out of the 2028 Olympic Games beyond the pale. As a volunteer who greeted Olympic arrivals at Los Angeles International Airport in 1984, I look at the last Olympic Games organized by Los Angeles as one of the five main events of my life and I cannot wait for it to return again.
In the hands capable of Mayor Karen Bass, I have no doubt that the event will take place as planned before starting after finishing.
