Bemoan Doge's volunteer tutors, the 'shameful' to Americanps

To the editor: I am one of those affected by President Trump's shameful cuts (“California, other states demand to the Trump administration to block the cuts to Americans.” April 29). I am a practicing nurse withdrawn, and this semester I began to give tutoring to two young students of the school district of Pasadena in Reading as a volunteer with reading partners, which obtains American Funds. On April 27, I received a message from the executive director of the reading partners, the, informing us that the American program of the non -profit organization has been “put in pause” [Editor’s Note: The Reading Partners program has since announced that it will resume, but with former AmeriCorps members acting as Reading Partners staff].

I was making good progress with my tuteles, a 6 -year -old first grade student and a second grade student of 7 years. And each American member with whom I have worked is a dedicated and committed professional who is passionate about his mission.

But in Trump's America, God does not allow us to teach our young people to be better readers when we need to scrape enough money for another massive tax reduction for the president's billionaire friends. I mean, let's keep our priorities straight.

To the editor: I was tutor of the American Reading Partners Program before receiving the warning that our financing had been reduced. What is particularly distressing is that only three weeks left to spend this semester, so the children we tutor will not even know why we will not come to see them. We all hope that the Government reverses its decision so that we can end the year with our students and continue next year while we help educate our children.
