The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a group that brings together several Iranian-backed militias in the country, said it attacked several targets along the Jordan-Syria border on Sunday, including a camp near the US base in Jordan where they were killed soldiers.
The camp, Al-Rukban, is very close to Tower 22, where the United States said three service members were killed in a drone strike.
The Islamic Resistance's statement, posted on its Telegram channel, came before the United States announced the deaths of its service members.
The organization's forces launched drone strikes at dawn on Sunday as part of their efforts to “resist the American occupation forces in Iraq” and in response to “Israel's massacres against our people in Gaza,” he said.
The attacks targeted four bases, three of which are in Syria, the group said.
What the United States has said: U.S. officials have said the drone that killed the U.S. service members at Tower 22 was launched by Iranian-backed militants and appeared to come from Syria. The United States has not yet named a specific militia it considers responsible, and a U.S. official told CNN on Sunday that is still being determined.
More from Jordan: The country's communications minister said the attack that killed the American soldiers targeted a “forward position on the Syrian border” and that no Jordanian border guard forces were injured. Muhannad Moubaideen described the attack as a “terrorist attack”. While condemning Israel's campaign in Gaza, Jordanian officials have often expressed concern about the possible expansion of the war in the Middle East. Jordan is a key U.S. partner in the region and receives significant U.S. aid.
