CNN commentator and political analyst Van Jones revealed that Democrats are privately discussing how best to replace President Biden with just months to go until November.
“I'm going to be honest,” Jones said Wednesday on CNN. “Everyone goes on air and says wonderful things, but behind the scenes it's panic.”
Biden met with Democratic governors across the country on Wednesday night to build support following his weak debate performance against former President Trump.
VAN JONES SAYS BIDEN 'WON'T BE FORGIVEN' FOR HIS 'BEST MOMENT' IN THE DEBATE
But outside the confines of the White House, Democrats are planning how to move forward with the campaign without Biden, Jones suggested.
“People are passing legal notes and PDFs back and forth on WhatsApp trying to figure out what the options are,” he said.
“How do you replace Biden?” he asked. “How do you get him to do it in a way that allows him to feel respected, as he deserves?”
“The conversation on the air and the conversation off the air are completely different,” Jones said.
The commentator, who once served as an adviser to former President Obama, defended Biden but said he still needed to be replaced.
“We have a great candidate,” Jones said. “We have a beautiful man. We have someone who loves this country. We have someone who has given everything, every last drop for this country, but he may not be able to get to the finish line. And a mature party has to take that into account.”

Jones acknowledged that some Democrats are pushing for Biden to “make his own decision” on whether he wants to resign. But the commentator said the conversations he is aware of do not leave the final decision in Biden's hands.
“There is a big conversation right now about as This happens, no Yeah“Jones said of another Democratic candidate who will replace Biden. He noted that the replacement could be Vice President Kamala Harris.
Several current and former House Democrats are signaling they would back Vice President Harris as her successor if the 81-year-old leader decides to step aside.
Rep. Summer Lee, a Pennsylvania Democrat and member of the House progressive “squad,” singled out Harris as the “obvious choice” to succeed Biden. Rep. Jim Clyburn, a South Carolina county longtime Biden ally, said Harris would be the “obvious choice” to succeed Biden. would support Harris as a candidate if Biden decides to withdraw from the race.
The Biden campaign did not respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
