It took Carlos Ulberg longer to enter the UFC Octagon Saturday night in St. Louis than it did to knock out his opponent, Alonzo Menifield.
The two fighters touched gloves in the middle of the cage and it was Menifield who attacked first. However, he tripped and fell into the cage. This allowed Ulberg to throw fists of fury. Ulberg connected with a left hand and surprised Menifield.

Ulberg hit Menifield with a right hand and the No. 11 light heavyweight fighter fell to his back. Then the referee stopped the fight.
The entire fight lasted about 12 seconds. It was the third-fastest light heavyweight knockout in UFC history.
It was Ulberg's sixth consecutive victory since March 2021, when he lost to Kennedy Nzechukwu by knockout. Menifield came into the fight with wins in four of five fights with a draw in between against Jimmy Crute.

“We knew he was going to show up,” Ulberg said, via MMA Fighting. “So I had to do what I had to do. He got me, that woke up and when you wake up a lion, he appears. Whoever is in the top 10, I will destroy anyone in my path.”
Ulberg was not listed in the light heavyweight rankings before the fight. He and everyone else admires champion Alex Pereira. Jiri Prochazka is the top contender for Pereira's belt.
