Former President Trump marked the third anniversary of the assault on the US Capitol on January 6 by demanding the release of all his supporters who have been convicted or detained for crimes related to the incident.
Trump made the comments during a campaign stop in Clinton, Iowa, on Saturday, calling his imprisoned supporters “hostages.” More than 1,200 people have been accused of participating in the riots, of which more than 900 have pleaded guilty or been sentenced.
“You’ve suffered enough,” Trump told the Iowa crowd. “I call you hostages. Some people call you prisoners.”
And he added: “They accused me because I questioned the corrupt elections.”
