“Honey walnut shrimp is said to have been brought to the US from Hong Kong in the 1980s or 1990s, and while it's a popular takeout dish here in the West, it's not as popular in the East,” she added.
She said this “incredibly easy” recipe comes together in just 20 minutes.

For fried shrimp
- 1 pound jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 2 cups frying oil, vegetable oil or peanut oil

1. In a small pot over medium heat, bring the water and honey to a boil. Add the walnuts and simmer for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Pour the walnuts and honey onto a parchment-lined tray to cool.

2. In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, honey, sweetened condensed milk and lemon juice, then set aside. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat (350°F).

3. In another medium bowl, season the shrimp with salt and pepper. Sprinkle with cornstarch and toss to coat well. Fry the shrimp until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Remove the shrimp and drain on a plate lined with a paper towel.

4Toss fried shrimp with honey sauce. Top with candied walnuts and garnish with green onions. You can serve this dish with rice, chow mein noodles, and/or steamed broccoli.
