Mayor Eric Adams' deal, announced Friday, to limit the time immigrants can stay in shelters at taxpayer expense is smoke and mirrors. It is designed to fool you into thinking it is solving a problem when in reality it is caving in to the immigrant industrial complex.

Adams says the agreement, with the Legal Aid Society and the Coalition for the Homeless, will allow the city to evict adult immigrants from city-run shelters after 30 days, saving taxpayers money and limiting the need. of more shelters. Is not true.

The fine print says that immigrants have a chance to stay longer if they get a driver's license, follow shelter rules and show good behavior, or — get this one — apply for public benefits. And this is a “non-exhaustive” list of reasons that make immigrants eligible to stay longer.

The agreement also applies only to single adults. A staggering 78% come with children and get priority hotel accommodations. Currently, the city spends a whopping $387 a night just on food and shelter for each family, and shells out more money on free healthcare, education, and legal services. This agreement does nothing to alleviate those staggering costs.

NEW YORK MAYOR MISSED BY IMMIGRATION ACTIVISTS OVER 'RACIST' CLAIM THAT MIGRANTS ARE 'EXCELLENT SWIMMERS'

The agreement condemns New York City to fiscal disaster, because it will continue to be the number one destination for immigrants seeking a free roof over their heads. The Big Apple is now the Migrant Central.

Worst of all, nothing in the agreement empowers the mayor to evict rioters who have repeated confrontations with police. The immigrants who beat the cops in Time Square were living in shelters, courtesy of taxpayers, and already had long criminal records.

When troublemakers are arrested and given the address of the shelter, the shelter must be contacted and told they no longer qualify. Why should taxpayers foot the bill for harboring criminals?

HOUSE REPUBLICANS GRILL NEW YORK MAYOR ERIC ADAMS ABOUT GIVING PREPAID DEBIT CARDS TO MIGRANTS

Notorious gangs like the Tren de Aragua and MS-13 recruit in the shelters. How convenient that taxpayers pay to house the lackeys of these gangs.

In October, Adams imposed a 30-day limit on adult migrants, but ended up in court when Legal Aid and the Coalition challenged it. A long negotiation followed that ended with Friday's agreement.

Since 1981, Legal Aid and the Coalition have successfully fought to impose a “right to housing” in New York. Now these two self-proclaimed guardians of the oppressed – elected by no one – insist that the “right” applies not only to New Yorkers but to anyone from anywhere in the world who wants refuge here. That's crazy.

After months of negotiations, Adams capitulated. No one at the table was looking out for taxpayers or New Yorkers who see their services cut off and their neighborhoods disrupted by the proliferation of shelters. The multi-billion dollar housing industry came out on top, but Joe Public was cheated.

When the deal was announced, Deputy Mayor Anne Williams-Isom praised “Right to Housing” and the Legal Aid Society for the work they do. They are all in bed together.

Josh Goldfein, a Legal Aid attorney, explained that despite the agreement, “no migrant would be left on the streets.” In fact, the agreement prohibits the city from even making immigrants sleep in chairs overnight while they wait to be located, imposing stricter housing requirements than before.

A “right to shelter” for anyone who shows up at Gotham's gates means that New Yorkers who want sanitation, police and fire protection, and other city amenities will be left at the back of the line. Their services are cut to pay for housing immigrants. Adams needs to fight aggressively, through the highest courts, to have that “right” reexamined.

Only New York has a “right to shelter” and that makes the city the main destination for immigrants. New York City spends more than 10 times more than Los Angeles per migrant and more than five times more than Chicago.

To make matters worse, the agreement and the Adams administration are rebranding immigrants as “newcomers,” whitewashing the laws they broke to get here.

Expect hundreds of thousands more to see these welcome signs and come. Who would not?

On Sunday, Adams praised the city's “responsible policies” and blamed “Republican extremists” for the border crisis. I'm sorry, Mr. Mayor, but the crisis here in New York City is due to the generous benefits that local Democrats insist on offering to “newcomers.” That cannot be hidden.
