First in Fox: Twenty -two State General Prosecutors sent a letter to the Senate leaders on Monday urging legislators to quickly confirm President Donald Trump's candidate to serve as the United States prosecutor for the Columbia district, Ed Martin, before a deadline of May 20, when judges in a court led by Trump's antagonist James Boasberg could select a temporary replacement.
“To say bluntly, the Columbia district is broken. And four years of corruption, mismanagement and abandonment of duty in the office of the United States prosecutor under the appointed of President Biden are, in many ways, to blame. Possible date,” reads the letter, which was first obtained exclusively by Fox News Digital. It was sent to the leader of the majority of the Senate John Thune and the president of the Judicial Committee of the Senate, Chuck Grassley, on Monday afternoon.
The letter occurs when a deadline is coming to confirm Trump's nominee, when his role as an interim lawyer from the United States dries after 120 days on paper. Martin, who previously worked as a defense lawyer and represented the Americans accused in the riots of January 6 In the Capitol in 2021, he was appointed interim prosecutor of the United States for the Columbia district from the day of the inauguration.
If the Senate does not confirm an interim prosecutor of the United States within 120 days, the judges of the Federal District Court for that district can appoint a new interim prosecutor from the United States until a nominee is confirmed, as shown in the documents of the Department of Justice. Trump's antagonist James Boasberg, a judge appointed by Obama at the Trump deportation efforts at the Center for Deportation, is the current main judge of the United States District Court for the Columbia district.

Trump has criticized the entire DC district court, saying that it would be “practically impossible” for him to obtain an “honest decision” after Boasberg blocked Venezuelan deportation flights from Trump in March.
“The courts of our nation are broken, since New York and DC are the most preeminent of their corruption and radicalism. There must be an immediate investigation of this manipulated system, before it is too late!” Trump published in Truth Social in March.
Indiana Republican Attorney, Todd Rokita, led the letter and told Fox Digital on Monday that Martin already showed in his few months serving interimly that “he is a proven leader.”
“I am proud to lead this effort to support Ed Martin because he is a proven leader who is already spending all his time to restore the rule of law in the capital of our nation,” said Rokita. “His bold actions have had an immediate impact, which he sent to the media of DC of bad reputation to a complete crisis: the Senate must act quickly to confirm it and ensure that his critical work remains uninterrupted.”

The letter argued similarly that the Senate's confirmation process should go without problems, since legislators can already examine Martin's history on paper.

“The Senate does not have to ask or speculate on whether Mr. Martin will direct the Office of the United States Prosecutor with Honor and Skill,” the state attorney general continued in his letter. “As an interim lawyer of the United States for the district since January 20, 2025, he has shown that he has what is needed to serve in that role with integrity and an intrepid commitment to do the right thing in the name of the US people. And there are few offices in the American justice system that could use that type of leader now as the office of DCUS's lawyer.”
The 23 states that joined the letter include: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisian Virginia.
Martin's confirmation has stagnated, however, with the Senator of Illinois Dick Durbin, the main Democrat of the Senate Judicial Committee, expressing concerns about the nomination during the executive business meeting of May 1 of the Committee.
The federal prosecutor promises to protect Doge employees from any 'threats, confrontations' aimed at the musk team
“Last Friday, we received answers from Mr. Martin to our questions, and raised even more questions. Mr. Martin made a series of false statements and contradictory statements that are easily refuted by the material he revealed in his judicial questionnaire of the Senate.

The AGS took a specific problem with the way in which the crime has been spiral in the capital of the nation under the Biden administration, which quoted was related to the justice system and not processing criminals.
“According to President Biden, public security and quality of life deteriorated in the Columbia district. Matthew Graves, the designated by President Biden as the main federal prosecutor for the district, the defeat during his term prosecute more than two thirds of all criminal cases brought to your office.
Since he assumed the position, Martin has supervised the layoffs of several cases of January on January 6 after Trump forgave and commute the defendants.
Martin also published a burning letter in February promising to retain those who try to sabotage the efforts of the Government Efficiency Department (Dux) to clean the federal government to spend excessively and corruption. Trump granted clemency to more than 1,500 criminal defendants of January 6 by assuming office earlier this year.

“I recognize that part of Doge's staff has been publicly attacked,” Martin wrote to Elon Musk in the February Charter. “At this time, I ask you to use my staff to help protect the work of Dux and Lege workers. Any threat, confrontation or other action in any way that affects your work can violate numerous laws.”

“Let me make sure this: we will continue each and every legal actions against anyone who prevents your work or threatens your people,” he continued. “We will not act as the previous administration that looked the other way as the Antifa and BLM uprooters, as well as thugs with weapons of arms destroyed our capital city. We will protect Doge and other workers regardless of what.”
In his letter, the state attorney general said that Martin has done more to take energetic measures in the crime during his few months as an interim leader than his predecessor under the Biden administration.

“Mr. Martin has prosecuted and confiscated the assets of the pro-break protesters who disfigured monuments and assaulted the police. He has pursued and accused the computer pirates backed by the Chinese who threatened our national security. He has prosecuted and interrupted the gang operations of illegal aliens. Serious did it in almost four years,” they wrote.
