Ever since Americans have begun to wake up to the reality of the illegal immigration problem in our country, politicians, activists, and cable news pundits have tried to calm the masses with slogans like “Immigration makes us stronger” and “Illegal immigration is a victimless crime.” While these Orwellian messages may have worked in the past, they are now failing miserably as people contrast them with their daily experiences and see a nation’s culture, opportunity, and security slipping away.

If the past three years have shown anything, it's that uncontrolled mass migration does not make us stronger, and it certainly is not a victimless crime. Despite corporate media re-framing of the crisis, millions of U.S. citizens and legal residents have lost their jobs, their property, their safety, and even their lives as a result of our ruling class's agenda to import the problem of global poverty here.

While stories of outrageous criminal activity by illegal immigrants dominate headlines in alternative media, much less attention is paid to the impact on Americans' job prospects of adding an estimated 10 million foreigners to the population in just a few years.

The problem was recently highlighted by a report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics that showed that native-born Americans lost more than 1.3 million jobs in the past 12 months, while foreign-born workers gained more than 1.2 million jobs.

This comes as the Biden administration touts modest positive overall job growth while ignoring the glaring distinction in the jobs report. No alarm bells were sounded, no member of the administration promised to address the issue. The data confirms what many people have suspected: this White House and many of our other elected leaders firmly prioritize the interests of illegal immigrants over those of American citizens.

It doesn't take a PhD in economics to see how uncontrolled illegal immigration hurts American workers. When the supply of workers is smaller, employers must compete for them and wages rise. When the supply of cheap foreign workers is plentiful, the cost of labor falls and employers can pay their workers less. Unscrupulous employers are also more likely to hire illegal workers and exploit them.

It’s not just politicians ignoring the problem; they are taking active steps to make the situation worse under the guise of pleasing a potential new voting bloc. New York’s Democratic governor, Kathy Hochul, announced earlier this year that her state would allow illegal immigrants to take public jobs, becoming the first in the country to do so.

To facilitate this, Hochul is relaxing the typical requirements that job seekers must meet to be eligible for these jobs, including proficiency in English and possession of a high school diploma. A similar initiative is underway in Denver, where government jobs for Americans are being eliminated as the city seeks to hire illegal immigrants in flagrant violation of federal law.

These policies also result in huge amounts of U.S. dollars leaving the country. A 2019 study found that both legal and illegal immigrants send, on average, $150 billion a year in untaxed remittances back to their home countries. This is an important aspect of the economic incentive for illegal immigration, as U.S. wages go far beyond these foreigners’ home countries than they do in the United States.

The real goal of anti-border politicians who promote work authorization for illegal immigrants is amnesty. By allowing illegal immigrants to take jobs in the United States, they are ultimately paving the way for legalization, even if the foreigners' asylum applications are rejected.

These leaders will argue that it would be cruel to deport foreigners who have worked in the United States and become part of their communities. Nowhere in this calculation is the impact on American citizens of the daily increase in competition for jobs across the border included.

The U.S. economy has been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic, as many small business owners have closed their doors and millions of employees have lost their jobs. As our country continues to struggle to regain lost prosperity, the last thing we need is a never-ending flow of cheap foreign labor that creates more job competition, drives down wages, and sends U.S. dollars abroad.

This may serve the interests of big business and Wall Street, but it is poison for American families. Until elected leaders begin to put the interests of our citizens first, we will continue to witness the slow and steady decline of America.
