Tennis legend Martina Navratilova is among those who believe the bandage on former President Donald Trump's ear following an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania over the weekend is excessive.

The severity of Trump's injury after a would-be assassin tried to shoot him dead in Butler, Pennsylvania, during a rally on Saturday has been questioned by some, including MSNBC host Ari Melber, who called the bandage on his ear he was seen wearing in his first public appearance since the shooting a “show.”

Navratilova responded to a post on an X account of a photo showing Trump wearing the bandage on his ear with a caption questioning its necessity.

“A good friend of mine is the head nurse (level IV nurse practitioner) at a major trauma center in a large city,” the message reads. “She says there is no need to bandage an ear wound like this unless half of her ear was blown off. And even then, it wouldn't look like this.”

Navratilova agreed, but insisted it was a “PR stunt” by Trump.

“Of course, it's obviously a PR stunt – the day after the shooting I didn't have any bandage on my ear… not even a band-aid,” Navratilova tweeted.

Navratilova did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.

Donald Trump Jr. made an appearance on “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday, where he responded to MSNBC after several commentators questioned the validity of his father's injury.

“They didn't shoot him in the face enough. Wasn't that enough?” he said. “That's the thing. They can't help it. Trump Derangement Syndrome is real. It's so stupid that they could say that… You look at the photograph of that moment. There was blood everywhere.”

The bandage worn by Trump was seen on several delegates at the Republican National Convention (RNC), which was held in solidarity with him.

Arizona's Joe Neglia was among those wearing the bandage.

“Yesterday, when he walked in and there was that explosion of love in the room, I thought, 'What can I do to honor the truth? What can I do?'” Neglia told Fox News Digital. “And then I saw the blindfold and I thought, 'I can do this.' So I put it on just to honor Trump and express my sympathy and unity with him.”

At the RNC, many Republicans supported Trump and thanked God for protecting him from the assassination attempt.
