Ted Cruz endorses Trump and calls for a unified front against Biden's 'cultural Marxist' agenda

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz on Tuesday endorsed former President Trump for the 2024 Republican nomination.

Cruz, who fought Trump in the 2016 election only to become a staunch ally during his presidency, said the Iowa caucuses showed that there is only one true candidate ready and viable to take on the left and the political establishment.

“[Iowa] It was a dominant victory for Donald Trump: I must say, there is no place like the Iowa caucuses. I know this intimately. The men and women of Iowa take their responsibility incredibly seriously. They vet the candidates,” Cruz said.

“It's an amazing process and I'm a big believer in letting democracy unfold. Well, last night it unfolded and I have to say, Trump's victory was sweeping… Congratulations to President Trump on that dominant victory. And at this point, I think this race is over.”

He called on the Republican Party to unite to defeat President Biden and the “disastrous Marxist cultural agenda in the White House.”

“I am proud to endorse Donald Trump as president of the United States. I look forward to supporting him enthusiastically,” he said.

After Iowa, Cruz said, there is no path to victory for any of the remaining candidates. She said the New Hampshire primary may be hotly contested, but it will essentially be a fait accompli for Trump after he likely wins South Carolina.

Cruz had long been silent about his favorite in the 2024 Republican primary, as Newsweek recently noted that he is also good friends with Trump rival Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

He reportedly called himself a political “Switzerland” when asked by the Texas Tribune about the 2023 race.

However, on Tuesday Cruz made it clear that he fully supports Trump.

“I firmly believe that we should let the process develop: that's how it was. And last night's results: 51% [of the vote, which included] 98 counties: that's compelling. And at this point, I think the contrast should focus on substance, policies and records. [versus Biden],” he said.

Cruz noted that he is also one of the Democrats' main targets in the Senate elections, as he seeks a third term in the November elections.

He will face the winner of a currently undecided Democratic field, which notably includes Rep. Colin Allred, a Dallas County congressman and retired Tennessee Titans linebacker.

“I wear it like a badge of honor,” he said of continuing to receive the ire and attention of Democrats as his re-election approaches.

“If you're a left-wing Democrat, after Donald Trump, there's no one in the country you want to beat more than me. And Chuck Schumer has made it clear that I'm his number one target in the country.”

“The Democrats are going to spend $100 million this year trying to beat me and trying to turn Texas blue. Now, that's not going to happen.”
