The governors of six northeastern states of the United States have invited ministers from six Canadian provinces to meet in Boston, since both parties face the impacts of tariffs.
The policy of President Donald Trump to impose tariffs on the products imported from the neighbor of the northern United States and other nations has caused controversy both in the United States and abroad.
The Group of Governors includes five Democrats: the governor of Massachusetts, Maura Healey, the governor of Maine Janet Mills, the governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, the governor of Connecticut, Ned Lamont and the governor of Rhode Island, Daniel McKee, and a republican – Vermont Governor Phil Scot.

The governors are inviting the ministers of the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nueva Scotia, Ontario, Prince Eduardo Island and the press releases of Québec, Healey and Mills.
“While the international uproar on tariffs threatens to fly the economies of our respective communities, we write to reaffirm our unique friendship and interdependence. Ours is an appreciated relationship that is based not only on mutual financial advantages, but also on family and cultural bonds of age that overcome politics,” US politicians said in their invitation.
“As governors of the northeast, we want to keep open lines of communication and cooperation and identify avenues to over the hardship of to time uninvited tariffs and help ort economies endure. Trump, who has repeatedly indicated that he would like Canada becoming state 51 of the United States, will meet with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday.
The moderator of “Meet the Press”, Kristen Welker, asked Trump if he would talk to Carney about making the state 51.
