A forest fire in Inyo and Mono counties caused evacuations on Sunday night, as it extended rapidly amid strong winds and low humidity.

The vegetation fire was informed at 2:11 pm on Highway 6 and Silver Canyon Road north of Bishop, according to the California Forestry and Fire Protection Department.
