A security guard shot and killed a man in the parking lot of a Home Depot in South Los Angeles on Sunday after the victim became involved in an altercation at the store, according to police.
The shooting victim, Carlos Lara Jr., 30, allegedly tried to assault someone at the home improvement store and then tried to flee, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said.
A security guard in the parking lot outside Home Depot in the 1800 block of Slauson Avenue then shot Lara as he tried to leave the scene, according to Citywide News Service. Lara was murdered.
The person Lara allegedly attacked in the store was also hospitalized for injuries, according to LAPD.
Los Angeles police detained the security guard at the scene but did not charge him with any crime.
