Special counsel Robert Hur prepared for Tuesday's testimony before the House Judiciary Committee with help from the Justice Department's Office of Legislative Affairs, according to a source close to him.

Hur left the Justice Department last week, so it's notable that he received help from the Justice Department for this hearing, and it's another example of the support Hur has received from the department even as the White House objects to some aspects of his report. .

CNN has reached out to the Justice Department for comment.

Once he left the Justice Department, Hur held additional moot hearings with his attorney, Bill Burck, and others to prepare for Tuesday's hearing, the source said.

Hur anticipates that Republicans will ask him why he did not impeach Biden and that Democrats will rebuke him for comments he included about Biden's memory.

A source close to Hur says he wants to stick with the traditional approach special counsels take in these hearings, where they don't talk about investigative methods or deviate from the report's conclusions.

The source said Hur will emphasize that he did not find Biden “innocent” but that he did not believe he could win the trial if he pressed charges.

“He's not looking to make anyone happy,” the source said. “He proves that he is independent.”

In response to the White House's release of the transcript of Biden's interview, the source told CNN that the White House is concerned that Hur will reveal additional information during questioning.
