Rob Lowe's son was 'upset and uncomfortable' while filming 'The West Wing'

Rob Lowe and his son John Owen have pursued passion projects together in the entertainment industry, but their son Matthew managed to appear on one of his father's most famous shows.

Matthew admitted he was still a big fan of the political drama when he joined his father's SiriusXM podcast, “Literally with Rob Lowe.”

Lowe appeared in the first four seasons of “The West Wing” like White House deputy communications director Sam Seaborn. He left the show in 2002 and Seaborn was eliminated from “The West Wing” with a run for Congress in California.

“I think I'm actually your biggest fan in the 'The West Wing' family. I've seen it a few times, the seasons I'm on it,” Matthew said.

“You're in this. Oh, you're in this,” Rob said before Matthew added, “It's my claim to fame. It's the famous episode, right?”

At the time, Lowe's departure was promoted as amicable and was attributed to his character's storyline fading.

“So I didn't have a good experience,” he said on the podcast. “I tried to make it work and I tried to make it work and I tried to make it work, and then what happened was my kids were getting to a certain age where I could see them having their first girlfriends or friends and being in a relationship that was “It's abusive and accepts it. She's the popular girl, everyone likes her, she's beautiful. She must be great everything people would tell me about doing 'The West Wing.'”

“It's so popular, it's so amazing, it must be amazing, but I know what it's like, and if I couldn't quit, how could I empower my kids to quit?”
