March 3, 2021 – Carey's brother, Morgan Carey, is filing a defamation lawsuit against her, alleging that her depiction in “The Meaning of Mariah Carey” caused him to “intentionally inflict emotional distress.” The lawsuit follows a separate lawsuit filed by Carey's sister, Alison Carey, a month earlier for emotional distress caused by her memoirs.

June 3, 2022 – In a complaint filed in federal court in New Orleans, Andy Stone sues Carey over her 1994 Christmas classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” Stone says he co-wrote a song with the same title five years earlier. The complaint states that Stone's attorneys first contacted the defendants in April 2021 about his alleged unauthorized use, but “were unable to reach an agreement.” On November 1, Stone requests to dismiss the case.

June 16, 2022 – He is included in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

November 1, 2023 – Andy Stone refiles his complaint in federal court in Los Angeles for “All I Want for Christmas is You.” Stone alleges copyright infringement and unjust enrichment and is seeking at least $20 million in damages.
