A fight broke out during a women's college football game between Rutgers and UMass on Sunday, with multiple punches thrown after a whistle blew for a foul.
Rutgers senior Gia Girman and UMass senior Ashley Lamond were the two parties involved in the fight, when the teammates eventually had to step in to stop the punches being thrown at each other on the field in Amhert, Massachusetts.
The altercation began when Girman fouled another UMass player from behind in the 55th minute of the game, causing both players to fall to the turf.

Lamond walked over to pick up the ball, which was at Girman's feet, and the Scarlet Knights player was clearly upset by it.
They began pushing and elbowing each other until Girman threw the first punch. Things then got ugly when Girman's hair was pulled and Lamond was seen throwing Girman to the ground.

After teammates managed to separate the players, the referee did what everyone on the field and spectators expected, as he issued red cards to both of them and ejected them from the game.
Both teams had to finish the match with 10 players on the pitch, although things remained evenly matched until the final whistle.
In the last 35 minutes of the match, four yellow cards were issued, two per team. In the end, the Minutewomen were crowned winners in this match, defeating the Scarlet Knights 1-0.
This was the third game of the new season for Rutgers, which previously defeated NJIT in its season opener, 1-0, on Aug. 15, and tied Wake Forest, 1-1, on Aug. 18.
