Photos: People’s Park in Berkeley clear in the middle of the night

Under the cover of darkness, law enforcement officers gathered at People’s Park and cleared activists from the green space early Thursday in preparation for the construction of a student housing complex.

Some resisters took shelter for hours in a makeshift treehouse and on the roof of a single-story building in the park.

Police were met by protesters chanting “Long live People’s Park” along with shouts of “Counterattack!”

Activists protesting the cleanup of People’s Park refused to come down from a tree house in the park for hours, but eventually relented.
