Photos: Fires ravage California after heat wave

We are in the midst of peak fire season in the West, and this year has been remarkably active compared to the previous two seasons, which were tempered by back-to-back wet winters.

According to Cal Fire incident data, approximately 838,575 acres have burned so far this season. That's more than in 2022 and 2023 set.

Although fires are part of the natural ecosystem of our forests, man-made climate change And roughly a century of poor forest management has greatly increased the risks of wildfires turning into the massive infernos we have seen occur with increasing frequency in recent years.
