A pedestrian was fatally struck by a Metrolink commuter train early Monday in Northridge, authorities said.
The person was struck in a “non-pedestrian zone” of the tracks shortly before 5:30 a.m., according to Metrolink spokesman Scott Johnson. No one else was injured, but the train traveling south on the Ventura County Line was stopped and removed from service.
The 60 passengers on board were helped off the plane and provided with alternative transportation via ride-sharing apps, Johnson said.
The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the incident, which occurred on the tracks near Corbin Avenue and Bahama Street, according to Officer Norma Eisenman, a spokeswoman for the LAPD. The person who died has not yet been publicly identified.
“The tracks remain closed while officials respond,” Johnson said. That section of the railroad between Chatsworth and Northridge remains closed, causing delays on Metrolink's Ventura County line and the Pacific Surfliner, he said. Rail service will resume once the Los Angeles Police Department and the coroner's office clear the scene.
“We want to remind everyone in the community to stay off the roads,” Johnson said.
