Parkinson's specialist met with Biden's doctor at the White House in January

A top neurologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center met with President Biden's physician at the White House earlier this year, White House records show.

Parkinson's disease expert Dr. Kevin Cannard met with Dr. Kevin O'Connor and two others at the White House residential clinic on Jan. 17, records first reported by the New York Post show.

The report comes as the 81-year-old president faces increased scrutiny over his age and mental acuity in the wake of a faltering and halting performance at the June 27 debate in Atlanta, Georgia.

Biden repeatedly avoids questions about whether he would get a neurological exam: “Nobody said he had to do it”

Dr. John E. Atwood, a cardiologist at Walter Reed, also attended the 5 p.m. meeting, according to White House visitor logs. The fourth person who attended has not been identified.

Asked for comment, White House spokesman Andrew Bates said: “A wide variety of Walter Reed system specialists visit the White House complex to treat the thousands of military personnel who work there.”

The meeting occurred on the same day Biden was in the White House and hosted House and Senate leaders to discuss funding for Ukraine, the president's schedule shows.

O'Connor said Biden was “fit to serve” as president after completing a physical in February.

“President Biden remains a healthy and vigorous 80-year-old man fit to successfully discharge the duties of the presidency,” the doctor said at the time.

Biden's physical exam included a neurological exam that specifically ruled out Parkinson's disease, O'Connor said.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters after the debate that Biden has not undergone any recent medical exams.

After Biden alluded to speaking to his doctor after the debate, the press secretary clarified that it had been just a “verbal check-in” about a recent, minor illness.

“He had a brief verbal interview in the last few days about his cold, it was not a medical examination or a physical examination,” Jean-Pierre said.
