Half a century after the eye witnesses first informed a red -eyed creature that kept the rhythm of their car at speeds of 100 miles per hour, thousands are still going to aim at pleasant, West Virginia, hoping to take a look at the mystery known as the Mothman.

The stories of eyewitnesses go beyond the sightings of a winged figure with red eyes. Some said they received mysterious phone calls, while others remembered visits from men with black costumes that warned them that “forget what he saw.”

That durable mystery sense, said Abby Hornacek of Fox Nation, is what makes Mothman's story so chilling.

“It is one of those fun theories … but it also offers some history, because there were real events that occurred at the time of these Mothman sightings that give context to our history, such as World War II and the collapse of Silver Bridge,” Hornacek, who houses the new feature “Mothman: The Man, The Moth, The Legend,” he said in an interview with Fox News Digital.

The mysterious Military Jet collision raises questions about advanced UFOs in the US Airspace.

In his new special, Hornacek remembers the steps of eyewitnesses, local journalists and believers of a lifetime to explore why the Mothman's legend still captivates Americans almost six decades later.

Along the way, he examined the Silver bridge disaster of December 1967, when the structure collapsed during the peak time, killing 46 people. Many believed that Mothman's sightings were connected, with some convinced that the creature was an omen of fatality and others that suspected that they had caused the tragedy itself.

The area was also close to the artillery works of Virginia Occidental, where explosives for war effort were made during World War II, which only adds to speculation and intrigue.

Whether linked to military history or local tragedy, the sightings consolidated Mothman as more than a fleeting scare, a legend that continues to attract crowds to point decades later.

Each year, Point Pleasent receives the Mothman Festival on the third weekend of September, attracting attendees who dress as the legendary crypto, enjoy live music, listen to paranormal experts share their ideas and examine a wide range of vendors.

Hornacek, who visited the festival during his investigation, described the atmosphere of intrigue, enthusiasm and beliefs.

“I really appreciated being close to people who are so passionate about something in their lives,” he said.

“People are really intrigued by folklore. And, at the end of the day, it's fun to be close.”

Fox Nation's feature includes first -hand accounts of eye witnesses such as Linda Sigman, who waited 50 years before sharing his story.

Reflecting on his work with Fox Nation, Hornacek said he feels “really blessed” to have addressed a wide range of projects, from national parks to folklore. But Mothman's research, he said, stands out.

“This special is different from anything you have done,” he said. “He put me in a new direction, and it was interesting to immerse himself in something he had not known.”

As for what he expects the public to take away the function, Hornacek said: “I hope people learn something new, maybe even is intrigued by Western Virginia, the locals and the beauty of that area.”
