Ohio Woman's Viral Videos of Rug Buried in Her Yard Led to Search for Possible Body

An Ohio woman shared videos on her TikTok account in which she was concerned that a body may have been buried in her yard, prompting a police investigation of her property.

Katie Santry first shared a video earlier in the week showing her and her family digging up a buried rug in the yard of her Columbus home, and made subsequent videos updating her followers on the situation, including calling the police to his house. .

The videos racked up millions of views and many people in their comments speculated why they would bury a rug in their garden.

Columbus police responded to the property later that week to investigate, but did not locate any bodies, according to Fox 59.

Santry described the events in a TikTok video as “the most absurd and crazy experience of my life.”

The investigation, which included K-9 units and an excavation, concluded Friday afternoon and police collected pieces of the carpet buried in the yard.

“All pieces tested negative for human or animal remains and, at this time, there are no plans to conduct further testing,” police said.

One official said it is common for houses to be built so that people bury objects rather than move them to save effort. The officer said K-9 units are not always correct, but when they are alerted to a location, police have to dig to confirm if something is there.

It's also possible that someone suffered something as small as a nosebleed years ago that the dogs detected, one officer said.

Santry, in several videos, detailed his first phone call to police. Officers who arrived at his home said at the time that they did not plan to investigate further.

“The whole world was telling me to get the police,” Santry said. “When I called the police and asked them, 'Hey, do you want to come to my house to look at a rug?' “I felt crazy.”

In a video posted Thursday, Santry said homicide detectives called her and told her they were sending investigators with cadaver dogs. She said in a video later that day that two different cadaver dogs on two separate attempts sat in the hole.
