Newsom presents the Redistribution Plan of California districts to counteract the republican party presumption on Thursday

California is in the center of the stage on Thursday in the national battle on the redistribution of congress districts before the middle of the period next year.

The two -period Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, will join the Democrats of Congress and legislative leaders in the very blue state in an event in Los Angeles.

That is where they are expected to present their game plan to counteract the impulse of President Donald Trump and Republicans to create up to five congress districts for the Republican Party. in the red state of Texas at the expense of the seats currently controlled by the Democrats.

“If you do not retire, I will be forced to lead an effort to re -draw the maps in California to compensate for the map rig in the red states,” Newsom said in a recent letter to the president.

Newsom promises to fight with 'fire with fire' in the battle of redistribution of districts of Congress

California Democrats have “promised not to completely eliminate the redistribution commission of independent State districts” and, on the other hand, plan to ask voters “to approve a constitutional amendment that would put new maps approved by the legislature in effect for the 2026, 2028 and 2030 electoral cycles.” (Photo AP/Rich Pedroncelli)

And he argued that Trump was “playing with fire” with his impulse for the redistribution of districts of the decade on rare day, but not unknown.

Newsom says Trump lost a deadline to withdraw from his impulse for the redistrit in Texas.

“Donald 'Taco' Trump, as many call it, 'The deadline !!! California will now draw new and more' beautiful maps', they will be historical at the end of Trump's presidency (the Democrats withdraw the house!),” Newsom wrote earlier this week in a publication on social networks published by his press office, which was destined to make fun of how Trump writes his own publications Social networks.

“Great press conference this week with powerful Democrats and Gavin Newsom, your favorite governor, who will be devastating for 'Maga'. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

The republican impulse in Texas, which occurs at Trump's instances, is part of a broader effort of the Republican Party throughout the country to attach most of the thin house to maintain control of the camera in the intermediate works of 2026, when the party in power traditionally faces the political front winds and loses seats.

Newsom demands that Trump abandon the impulse of redistribution of Texas districts

Trump and his political team aim to avoid what happened during their first mandate in the White House, when the Democrats broke into the majority of the camera in the partial exams of 2018.

But while the republican impulse in Texas to dump the current Maps of Congress does not face constitutional limitations, the Newsom path in California is much more complicated.

In Texas, the Republicans plan to promulgate the new maps they elaborated once sufficient state Democratic legislators who fled the State to prevent the legislature from approved the return of the measure to Texas.

The governor is moving to celebrate a special election this year, to obtain the approval of the voters to undo the constitutional amendments that created the commission of non -partisan redistrites. A two -third majority vote would be needed in the California Legislature dominated by the Democrats to celebrate the referendum.

The leaders of the Democratic Party trust that they will have the votes to boost the constitutional amendment and the new Maps of Congress proposed through the Legislature.

The Press Conference on Thursday by Newsom, considered a probable contender for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, will also serve as a start of fundraising to collect massive amounts of cash cash necessary to sell the redistribution thrust throughout the state in California.

The new role of Schwarzenegger's sights

The Redistribution Commission of Non -Party Districts, created more than 15 years ago, is still popular among most Californians, according to public opinion surveys.

That is why Newsom and California Democratic legislators are promising not discarding the commission completely, but temporarily replacing it with the legislature during the next three electoral cycles.

But their efforts oppose a series of figures that support the non -partisan commission.

Among the most visible members is former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, the last Republican governor chosen in California dominated by Democrats.

Schwarzenegger, during his mandate as governor, had a leading role in the approval of constitutional amendments in California in 2008 and 2010 that took the power to attract legislative districts and state -owned state far from politicians and place it in the hands of an independent commission.

“Most people really do not think about an independent commission much, in one way or another. And that is both an opportunity and a challenge for Newsom,” Jack Pitney, a professor of American politics at the Claremont McKenna College in California told Fox News.

But he added that “a lot of effort and money will be needed to energize the Democrats and motivate them to appear in the surveys” and that Newsom's effort “is about motivating the people who do not like Trump.”
