Immigration and compliance agents of the United States carried out a series of immigration sweeps in southern California on Friday morning, generating fear and anxiety among immigrant communities.
At least one video posted in X shows federal agents that are addressed to people in the home depot parking lot in Westlake, not far from the center of Los Angeles. You can listen to a man who recording the video warns people in Spanish that immigration officials were in place and to stay away.
The councilor of Los Angeles, Eunisses Hernández, whose district includes Westlake, said in a written statement that his office received reports on immigration application operations that take place in his district and other parts of Los Angeles.
“These actions are increasing: agents arrive without warning and go quickly, aware that our communities mobilize rapidly,” he said. “I urge Angelenos to remain alert.”
The raids are the last of a series of high -profile immigration application actions during the last week, part of the promised deportation repression of President Trump. A few days ago, immigration agents assaulted a popular San Diego restaurant and arrested, which caused a confrontation with outraged residents. The agents also arrested Chinese and Taiwanese citizens in an underground nightclub in the Los Angeles area.
Yasmeen Pitts O'Kefe, a spokesman for national security investigations, an ICE branch, said federal agents in downtown Los Angeles were executing raid orders related to the port of people illegally in the country. No other details were provided, and it was not known how many operations were taking place.
Another video posted on Instagram shows six federal agents who walk near Towne Avenue and 10th Street in the fashion district.
Ron Gochez, a member of the neighborhood union, an independent political organization that advocates the rights of immigrants and social justice, said his group has been “flooded” with calls on immigration sweeps that take place in the counties of Los Angeles and Orange.
“There were ice agents in an Home Depot on Cypress, there are ice agents in Wilshire Boulevard and Union Avenue, a construction site in North Hollywood and in South La,” he said in a telephone interview. “They are everywhere.”
