More than half of Harris voters want to relocate after Trump victory: survey


More than 50% of Vice President Kamala Harris' voters say they want to change their minds following Trump's victory in the 2024 presidential election, according to a poll commissioned by StorageUnits.com.

Storage Units surveyed 1,837 Harris voters on Nov. 6 to determine how many would like to relocate (and who actually plans to do so) and the top concerns of those who voted against Trump.

Of those surveyed, 44% would like to move but probably won't, while 5% said they definitely will move and another 5% said they probably will. Those who would like to move, but probably won't, cited personal finances, family and community ties as reasons for staying.

Of the 10% who plan to move or are seriously considering it, 90% are considering moving to another country, with the main options being Canada, the United Kingdom and Mexico. California, New York and Colorado were the top three options for those considering moving to another state.

According to the poll, the top three reasons Harris voters want to relocate are concerns about a federal abortion ban, rising racial inequality and progressive rights being rolled back.

Abortion access at the federal level, which was a major Democratic campaign issue, has been an area of ​​concern for many Democratic voters even though Trump stated that he would not enact a federal ban on abortion and reiterated that he is agree to leave the decision. in the hands of the states after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022.

Other areas of major concern include: reduced access to health care, increasing social inequality, lack of gun regulation, and weakening public education.

“Some Harris voters who are experiencing fear, anxiety and worry following the election results may choose to move from a red state to a blue state with more LGBTQ+ friendly and/or less restrictive abortion laws. However, there are a number of factors that influence any potential move, such as cost of living, job availability and housing prices,” real estate agent Jo Ann Bauer told Storage Units.

Of all generations surveyed, Generation Z had the highest number of Harris voters who said they will definitely or probably move (nearly 20%) compared to Millennials, Generation X and Boomers.

Generation Z also had the fewest participants who said they have “no interest in moving,” at around 30%.
