A gunman shot at a Metrolink train Wednesday night at a Palmdale station, leaving two people hospitalized and a passenger car riddled with holes.
The shooting occurred near the platform where northbound Antelope Valley Line train 229 departed for Lancaster. Authorities said two people who were outside the train were injured and bullets also hit the passenger car.
Passengers on the train reported the gunshots, Scott Johnson said.
One of the shooting victims was wounded in the hip and the other in the calf, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Michael Stowers. Their injuries are not life-threatening, he said. Rescuers took them to a hospital for treatment.
Some media outlets said a woman hurt her head while dodging gunfire, but Stowers could not confirm those reports.
Authorities had no information about what led up to the incident or the identity of the shooter as detectives continued their investigation.
The train was delayed for nearly an hour while Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies conducted the investigation. Metrolink has removed the bullet-damaged passenger vehicle from service.
No other Metrolink services were affected.
When asked about safety concerns among passengers taking the Antelope Valley Line, Scott said, “Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies and armed security officers regularly travel on Antelope Valley Line trains to provide protection and security”.
