A cheeky bird was rescued by a woman after it crashed through her car window and settled into her vehicle as she drove along a country road in the UK.

Jessica Mathews spotted the rooster on the side of the road while heading home along a country road in Aston-on-Trent, Derbys, according to SWNS, the British news service.

But the runaway bird decided to jump out the window of his Ford KA before making himself at home in the passenger seat and refused to leave.

The rooster, nicknamed Barry, even “munched” on the woman's shopping haul as she tried to get it out of the vehicle, SWNS reported.

Mathews decided to rescue the lost animal and bring it home before he could finally rehome it.

“He just didn't want to get out of the car,” she said. “I was trying to push him out of the car and then the next thing I know he's [sitting] in the passenger seat.”

No vet wanted to take him because “he wasn't my pet.”

He also told SWNS: “I was thinking, 'Okay, it looks like I have a chicken now.'”

“I bought some pecans and some raspberries from my grocery store and we're going to try to get him out of the car.”

In a different clip, she gave another update and said: “So he doesn't belong to the farm people, no one answers there, so now let's see if we can find if he lives up here.”

However, that effort was not successful.

“It was actually very difficult to give him away.”

Finally, after contacting vets and animal rescue centres, a man in Castle Donington, Leiceister, offered to rehome the bird the following day, SWNS reported.
