A Los Angeles man died in a crash outside a Northern California ski resort Friday morning, authorities confirmed Wednesday.
Nicholas Kenworthy, 26, was reportedly traversing a difficult trail designed for experienced skiers when he died. Placer County Sheriff's Communications Manager Elise Soviar confirmed that the 26-year-old was the victim of the crash.
Kenworthy was skiing near the Northstar California Resort in Truckee, just outside Lake Tahoe.
According to Soviar, no information is available regarding the type of accident or injuries suffered by Kenworthy.
Northstar's media contact number has been deactivated and an email to the resort was not immediately returned.
The resort's ski patrol initially responded to the injured skier, who was hiking the rugged and advanced Martis Trail, according to Sierra Solcovering the local community.
The ski patrol turned over rescue duties to the Truckee Fire Department, according to the Sun. Kenworthy was pronounced dead, however, before reaching the local hospital.
An email sent to the Truckee Fire Department was not immediately returned.
The death occurred four years after an earlier tragedy near Northstar.
Search teams located body of 43-year-old Colorado native Rory Angelotta in a zone north of the complex on January 8, 2022. Angelotta was last seen on December 25.2021, riding a ski lift at the resort, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Department.
