Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy responded Monday morning to criticism from former President Donald Trump, who called his campaign “misleading.”

When Fox News host Steve Doocy asked Ramaswamy about Trump's attack on his campaign on Saturday, he said, “Well, I'll tell you, you know, I took it in a lighthearted way. But the truth is that people have to keep their heads in the snow so as not to see what is happening here on the ground.”

Trump issued his first criticism of Ramaswamy in a Truth Social post on Saturday, saying that Ramaswamy “started his campaign as a huge supporter, 'the best president in generations,' etc. Unfortunately, now all he does is disguise his support in form of deceptive campaign tricks.”

Ramaswamy told Doocy: “I know the mainstream media is ignoring it, but there has been a massive surge here late in the process. Several endorsers who were expected to go to Donald Trump: legends in Iowa like former congressman Steve King , “I was expected to vote for Trump, he came for me, several of the strongest constitutional conservatives have switched from the other candidates in the last 72 hours to me.”

He continued: “Steve Holt came from Ron DeSantis. And that's why I think the people who are really on the ground are not blind to that reality. And I think the mainstream media, to a large extent, for better or worse, have been, which means I think we're going to see a shock tonight.”

Ramaswamy also responded to billionaire Elon Musk's praise, saying, “I think he's a smart guy and look, we'll see what happens tonight. But one of the things is that I think the polls are dramatically off. “Many of our supporters are first-time caucus attendees, people who may come from younger generations.”

And he nodded toward the frigid conditions facing Iowa voters tonight: “I think a lot of our supporters… we don't have lukewarm supporters, Steve, we have staunch supporters. And I think that's what will be rewarded tonight as well.”
