Kamala Harris criticized online for making disjointed comments during Oprah event: 'Unbelievable embarrassment'

Political commentators and other social media users criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for comments she made during a campaign event and an interview with Oprah Winfrey on Thursday night.

“We love our country,” Harris said. “I love our country. I know we all do, that's why we're all here now. We love our country. We take pride in the privilege of being Americans, and this is a moment when we can and should come together as Americans, understanding that we have so much more in common than what divides us. Let's come together with the ethos that we're so proud of, which is that we are an optimistic people. We are an optimistic people.”

Harris spoke with Winfrey at the Unite for America Rally, a livestreamed event that featured celebrity appearances as well as questions and stories from citizens across the country.

“Americans by character are people who have dreams, ambitions and aspirations,” Harris said, continuing her remarks.

“We believe in what's possible, we believe in what can be, and we believe in fighting for it. That's how we came into existence, because the people who came before us understood that one of the greatest expressions of love for our country, one of the greatest expressions of patriotism is to fight for the ideals of who we are, which includes the freedom to make decisions about our own bodies, the freedom to be safe from gun violence, the freedom to have access to the ballot box, the freedom to be who we are and to simply be the love, who we love, openly and proudly. Freedom to simply be.”

Online critics accused the vice president of offering rambling remarks that didn't seem to contain much substance.

“Oprah looks at this idiot and thinks, 'What the hell is he saying?' It's unbelievable,” author Juanita Broaddrick wrote Thursday.

“The fact that he is 20 points behind Trump is a sad and depressing commentary on the state of our body politic and the media that poisons it,” wrote attorney David Limbaugh. “It's astonishing.”

“This might be the most spectacular two minutes of Kamala's nonsensical wisdom I've ever heard,” political commentator Kate Hyde wrote on Thursday.

Writer Steve Skojec also responded to the video on Thursday: “I can't. I can't do it. I did it in 17 seconds and I just can't continue.”
