April 2005 – Resigns as president of the New York Stock Exchange.

February 4, 2010 – Testifies before the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee on the financial crisis.

2010-2014 – He serves as chairman of the MIT board of trustees. Reed remains an emeritus life member of the board of directors.
