Jill Biden says her husband is 'one of the most effective presidents' in modern history 'because' of his age


First lady Jill Biden kicked off the Seniors for Biden-Harris campaign Thursday by arguing that President Biden's age is an advantage and not a disadvantage.

“This election is certainly not about age,” the first lady said at a campaign event in Green Bay, Wisconsin, amid an effort to use pickleball and bingo nights to activate older voters.

“Joe and that other guy are essentially the same age. Let's not be fooled,” he added. “Joe is one of the most effective presidents of our lifetimes not despite his age, but because of it.”

Since President Biden is 81 years old and former President Trump just turned 78, the age of both presidential candidates has been a topic of national conversation. However, Biden's history of gaffes and alleged memory lapses have put the mental acuity of his age in a harsher spotlight, especially after special counsel Robert Hur described the president as a “sympathetic old man.” , well-intentioned and with a bad memory”.

“This election is not about age. I mean, Donald Trump will be 78 and Joe will be 81. They're basically the same age,” he told “The View” co-hosts last month. “But it's about character. This election is about character.”

“So you have two options: You have my husband Joe, who everyone knows, who has integrity, he is strong, he is stable, he is a leader. He is smart. He is energetic, or you have chaos,” the first lady said.

In an ABC News/Ipsos poll in February, 86% of Americans said Biden is too old to serve another term as president, while 62% said the same of Trump.
