A viral video shared on social media shows an agitated Farrell forcefully colliding with Navarro as they performed their song “Ocean Size” at the Lender Pavilion in Boston on Friday night. A furious Farrell screams at his bandmate as Navarro attempts to keep his frontman at bay, creating a barrier between them with his arm.

Before crew members could separate the musicians, Farrell threw a punch at Navarro. Navarro was pinned down, though Farrell fought back before being taken off stage.

The place went dark and the show ended abruptly.

The morning after the fight, Farrell's wife, Etty Lau, came forward with information about what she believed had happened.

“There had clearly been a lot of tension and animosity between the members… the magic that made the band so dynamic. Well, the dynamite was lit. Perry stood in front of Dave and charged at him,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Perry's frustration had been mounting, night after night he felt that the volume on stage had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band. Perry had been suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat every night. But when the audience in the front row began to complain to Perry, cursing him that the band was [playing] “It was too loud and they couldn't hear it, Perry lost control.”

Etty Lau, also a musician and actress, claims the band started “Ocean Size” before Farrell was ready and that her husband “couldn't hear over the din and vibration of the instruments and by the end of the song, he wasn't singing, he was just screaming… to be heard.”

She wrote that bassist Eric Avery “won the fight.”

“While Dave held Perry at a distance to calm the situation, Dan rushed in to calm her down as well, holding him down. Dave then moved away to take Perry's guitar from him. Eric approached Perry, upstage in the dark behind Dan, put him in a headlock and punched him three times in the stomach. Kevin, a long-haired crew member, pulled Eric away. Eric then nonchalantly made his way to the front of the stage to apologize to the audience for the show ending early.”

Lau said Dave “looked handsome and calm in the middle of a fight” while her husband “was a crazed beast for the next half hour.”

“He didn't finally calm down, he just broke down and cried and cried. Eric, well, he didn't understand what was going on. [deescalation] “He meant that he took advantage of the situation and took a few cheap shots at Perry. Well, that's my first-person version of what happened.
