Jake Paul 'gutted' by Mike Tyson amid health scare, but remains ready for fight: 'Ready when you are'


Fans will have to wait a little longer to see Mike Tyson make his long-awaited return to the ring. The next fight between Tyson and Jake Paul has been put on hold.

The boxing match was originally scheduled for July 20 in Arlington, Texas. But Tyson recently experienced health complications that forced the postponement. Despite the delay, Paul maintains that he will be ready to go when the fight happens.

“I'm ready when you are. This is too big an opportunity. This fight is going to change the world,” Paul said in a video posted on X, the company formerly known as Twitter.

The YouTuber-turned-professional boxer also noted that he was “heartbroken” when he learned that Tyson's ulcer outbreak meant the fight would not happen as initially planned.

“Obviously, this is devastating news. I'm heartbroken, speechless, devastated,” Paul said in the video.

“We've been working very hard here, everyone in this camp. And I feel very bad for everyone involved in this event, the whole card, this opportunity has been taken away from all of us. But I value Mike's health first. And above all “I love that guy, I have a lot of respect for him.”

Paul added that Tyson's health was the priority.

“I want Mike to be healthy. And he still says he's going to knock me out and that I've bought myself some time,” he added, laughing. “So Mike's still talking shit there.”

Tyson experienced a health scare shortly before landing on a recent flight to Los Angeles. The 57-year-old received medical attention, but initially it did not appear that the fight would be affected. However, medical staff recommended that Tyson only perform “minimal or light training over the next few weeks” during a recent medical checkup.

“During a follow-up consultation on Thursday with medical professionals regarding his recent ulcer outbreak, the recommendation is that Mike Tyson do minimal or light training for the next few weeks and then return to full training without limitations,” a statement released. Friday reading.

Tyson also thanked his fans and promised to resume his full training program at some point in the near future.

A press release from Paul's Most Valuable Promotions confirmed that the fight would be moved to a later date. A new date for the fight is expected to be announced on June 7. The event would likely still take place at AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys.

Tyson has not fought competitively since his TKO loss to Kevin McBride in 2005. He competed in an exhibition match with Roy Jones Jr. in July 2020.
