'I'm 60 years old, I sold my house and left my job to travel the world'


While many people have dreamed of doing it, a woman in her 60s is determined to reach every country in the world.

She also has a big plus on her wish list.

Lynn Stephenson, an office manager, sold her house, quit her job, and began traveling the world with the goal of visiting every country in the world.

He swapped his two-bedroom home for hotels and hostels around the world after being bitten by the travel bug, according to news agency SWNS.

At 62 years old, he has already visited 168 countries and plans to continue visiting the remaining 27 over the next year.

Before selling her house and leaving her job, Lynn Stephenson, a former office administrator, had taken several trips around the world, she said, but this time she meant it. (SWNS)

In November 2022, he said: “I decided to sell. It was always on the radar and what I wanted to do.”

So he sold his townhouse in Carlton, Nottingham, England, and pocketed approximately $173,000 after paying off his mortgage, he said.

But she said traveling makes her “very calm.”

“COVID gave me the push I needed to do it,” he told SWNS.

“I had never believed that the entire world could be blocked.”

He said that when “the blockade was lifted [in portions of the U.K.] On July 3, 2020, I was on a plane to Italy on July 5.”

He said he saved everything before the flight date.

Since beginning full-time travel in late 2022, Stephenson has checked off Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Iraq, Afghanistan, South Korea, Pakistan and Taiwan, he told SWNS.

“I think it's very difficult to choose your favorite country.”

He called the Galapagos Islands “amazing…I went for eight days and stayed for 16.”

Where else in the world, he said, “can you swim?” [on] the same day with penguins, sharks and sea lions? “They have giant turtles and I saw a seahorse.”

He also said: “I think it is very difficult to choose your favorite country. How can you compare Papua New Guinea with Italy? They are completely different.”

He said, “My favorite thing about traveling is realizing that the world is full of really kind and hospitable people,” despite what others may believe or say, he said.

He also said, “I don't scare very easily.”

Next year, he said, Australia awaits him, where he will see friends he met on his travels and spend a few weeks.

He also has Bangladesh and Brunei on his radar for 2025.

She will also “return to Africa,” he said.

He said that once he reaches as many countries as he can, he will revisit some favorite places on his “epic world tour.”

As for the motto of his travel blog, “Dare, dream, discover,” it is nothing less than this: “A smile for every kilometer.”
