A Salvadoran man accused of killing a Virginia woman during a carjacking over the weekend was living illegally in the United States, immigration authorities said.
Jose Aguilar-Martinez, 21, is charged in connection with Sunday's fatal encounter that resulted in the death of Melody Waldecker, 54, a grandmother, FOX 5 DC reported.

Loudoun County Sheriff's Office deputies responding to the incident were called around 11:30 a.m. and found Waldecker dead at the scene. Investigators determined she was struck by her own vehicle as the suspected robber fled the scene.
Aguilar-Martinez was found and arrested about 45 minutes later. He was taken to a local hospital after apparently suffering from an unrelated medical condition, the news outlet reported.

Aguilar-Martinez entered the United States as an “escapee” at an unknown date and location, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told Fox News.
ICE has filed a detainer request for him to be turned over to immigration authorities when he is released from local custody.
