Chicago – Former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton spoke at the Democratic National Convention on Monday night, where she praised the accomplishments of Vice President Kamala Harris and highlighted former President Donald Trump's legal troubles.
““She will fight to lower costs for working families, open the doors to good-paying jobs, and yes, restore abortion rights across the country,” Clinton told the crowd gathered at the United Center. “As prosecutor, Kamala put away murderers and drug dealers. She will never rest in defense of our freedom and security. Donald Trump fell asleep at his own trial. And when he woke up, he made his own history. The first person to run for president with 34 felony convictions.”
The crowd began chanting “lock him up,” a reference to the “lock her up” chants that often broke out at Trump's rallies when he was running against Clinton in 2016 and criticizing her over allegations of corruption and mishandling classified documents.
Clinton could be seen smiling and nodding as the chants continued.

“Just look at the candidates,” Clinton said. “Kamala cares. She cares about children and families. She cares about America. Donald only cares about himself.”
Earlier in the afternoon, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul drew some cheers from the crowd when she joked that “Trump hasn't spent much time in New York lately, except to get convicted of 34 felonies. And that's fine with us.”
Clinton, for her part, touted Harris's political resume as a prosecutor in California.

“On her first day in court, Kamala spoke five words that still guide her,” Clinton told the crowd. “Kamala Harris for the people. That's something Donald Trump will never understand. So it's no surprise, right, that he's lying about Kamala's record. He's making fun of her name and her laugh. Sounds familiar. But now we have him on the loose.”
“So, regardless of what the polls say, we can't give up. We can't get sucked into crazy conspiracy theories. We have to fight for the truth. We have to fight for Kamala, just like she'll fight for us. Because you know what? It still takes a village to raise a family, heal a country, and win a campaign.”
Clinton continued: “On the other side of that glass ceiling is Kamala Harris raising her hand and being sworn in as our 47th president of the United States.”
Clinton told the crowd that “we need to confront the dangers that Trump and his allies pose to the rule of law and our way of life.”

“Don't be distracted or complacent. Talk to your friends and neighbors. Volunteer. Be proud defenders of the truth and the country we all love.”
In closing, Clinton said she wants her grandchildren and their grandchildren to “know that I was here in this moment” and that “we were here” and “with Kamala Harris every step of the way.”
“This is our moment, America,” Clinton said. “This is the moment we must stand up. This is the moment we must break through. The future is here. It is within our reach. We are going to win it.”
