High profile flag burns that led Trump's executive order on the prosecution

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday that demands the prosecution of those trapped by burning the US flag as a form of intimidation, a practice described by the White House as “unique offensive and provocative.”

“My administration will act to restore respect and holiness to the US flag and prosecute those who incite violence or violate our laws while desecrating this symbol of our country, to the greater extent allowed under any authority available,” says the order.

Before the order of Monday, the viral instances of the burning of public flag have become much more prominent. Below is a list of several burns of recent flags.

June 2025: Anti-Hielo Disturbios de Los Angeles

During the recent Anti-Hielo riots in Los Angeles, people burned American flags on the street in opposition to the federal Trump immigration offensive in the city.

The movement enraged Trump, who promised during a speech to the troops in Fort Bragg days later to ensure that it would not happen again.

“These are animals, but proudly they carry the flags of other countries. They do not carry the American flag. They just burn it. Did they see that many flags are burned?” asked.

“They were not being burned by people from our country, or by people who love our country. People who burn the US flag should go to jail for a year,” Trump continued. “We will see if we can do that. We are going to try to do it. We are working with some of their senators.”

June 2025: Anti-Hielo Riots in Seattle

After the riots in Los Angeles, similar agitators began to protest against the ice in Seattle, where at least one person eliminated an American flag of a asta shaft and lit it.

August 2024: Anti-Israel protesters in Chicago

The extreme left agitators shouting “free Palestine” burned American and Israeli flags near the Israeli consulate in Chicago as part of several protest nights during the National Democratic Convention.

Pro-Palestinian agitators descended at the La Unión station in Washington, DC, when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu went to Congess.

His actions included the burning of American flags.

Eight people were arrested and federally accused of charges ranging from assaulting police officers, theft, to the manufacture of threats.

“Our great American flag is the most sacred and appreciated symbol of the United States of America, and of American freedom, identity and strength,” said Trump's order. “For almost two and a half centuries, many thousands of American patriots have fought, bleed and died to keep the stars and stripes greeting with pride.

“Burning this representation of America can incite violence and disturbances. American flag burning is also used by groups of foreign citizens as a calculated act to intimidate and threaten violence against Americans due to their nationality and place of birth.”
