Gleaton Jones, a former Georgia Bulldogs running back who was on the 2021 national championship team, has died following injuries he suffered in a car accident last week. He was 21 years old.
Jones was on a hunting trip in Florida when he was involved in a car accident, according to the University of Georgia student newspaper The Red & Black. He suffered a brain injury in the accident and was admitted to the ICU of a Florida hospital.

“Gleaton lived life to the fullest and expressed joy and enthusiasm in every endeavor,” an obituary for Jones read. “At such a tender age, he created a fulfilling life for himself and others, investing deeply in his family, friends, brotherhood, and service to others through his growing faith. Known to his closest friends as 'Gleat' , he was described as simply cheerful and magnetic.
“There was no space big enough that his bright light could not fill. By all indications, he was well-liked, popular and charming, but even more so, humble, kind, empathetic and affable, making his friends feel loved. e important.”

Jones attended Deerfield-Windsor School in Georgia before committing to the Bulldogs. At school he played three sports and chose to play soccer.
He was only with the Bulldogs for a single season.
“There are so many blessings to be grateful for from the multitude of love, support and prayers given to Gleaton's family and all who loved him,” the obituary continues. “Truly, your prayers have borne burdens that were too heavy to bear alone.
“The Albany community, the Deerfield-Windsor school community, and the families and members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity have poured so much love and encouragement into their lives and they are eternally grateful.”

A memorial service for Jones will be held Monday afternoon at Wynfield Plantation.
